Description

Grown in Colombia’s central coffee-growing region, the ideal elevation ranges from about 1,200 to 2,200 meters above sea level—providing consistent temperatures, abundant rainfall, and fertile volcanic soils that are perfect for Arabica cultivation. In the Salgar area (part of Antioquia’s southwestern coffee zone), over 75 % of the coffee is cultivated at altitudes above 1,800 masl. The main Arabica varieties grown include Castillo (50 %), Colombia (39 %), and Caturra (4%)

The Cooperativa de Caficultores de Salgar was officially founded on 17 June 1965, when 34 local coffee growers met in Salgar to draft the cooperative’s constitution. The cooperative has grown into a vital organization supporting coffee producers across six municipalities in southwestern Antioquia, providing a range of services from quality control and technical assistance to market access and sustainable development initiatives.
